Introduction of Kumasi National Vocational Training Centre


Kumasi Vocational Training Centre ( KVTC ) was established in 1973 as the branch of National Vocational Training Institute ( NVTI ) under the ministry of Manpower, Development and Employment. The centre was established to give training or short causes to artisan or medium and small scale enterprises and their apprentices to develop their skills and competency in their various fields.

The centre was later converted into a full training school to provide competency base training to Junior high school ( J H S ) and senior high school (S H S ) leavers – the main objective behind this idea was to provide the best system of employment and to provide demand – driven employable skill and enhance income generating capacities to aese pressure on the central government in terms of employment since our training emphasis more on competency based the system of our training is seventy percent 70% practical and thirty percent in theorytical aspects.
Apart from the normal training, the centre also organizer in-plant training ( short course ) which was the initial aim or establishing the centre in about thirty (30 ) trade areas such as Auto mechanics, welding and fabrication , spraying, catering, dress making to mention a few to improve upon their productivity.


LOCATION – Kumasi Vocational training Centre, one of the thirty – eight centre of National Vocational Training Institute, is located at suame near suame Total filling station Emmanuel Methodist Church

CAUSES OFFERED – the centre offered the following causes
1. MOTOR VEHICLE MECHANIC ( MVM )
2. WELDING AND FABRICATION ( WF )
3. AUTO BODY REPAIRS ( MVBR )
4. MOTOR VEHICLE ELECTRICALS ( MVE )
5. GENERAL PRINTING ( GP )
6. MAINTENANCE FITTING ( MF )

Upon demand from the general public and the stake – holder the management wish to introduce the following causes
1. CATERING / COOKERY
2. ELECTRNICS / RADCO AND TELEVISION
3. REFRIGERATION AND AIR – CONDITION
